Ignorance Isn’t Bliss

“Nice ink.” The man in line behind me nodded to my tattoo, a lock of his dark hair falling over his brow. “Hieroglyphics?”

“Cuneiform.”

He leant closer and waited out the grinding of coffee. “What does it mean?”

“Ignorance isn’t bliss, it’s just ignorance.” It didn’t say that. Maybe my next one should.

Afterword

The mission was to write a story of exactly 53 words about ‘a script’.

While a script from the doctor or for a movie came first to mind, I was keen to try to take it in a different direction, as usual.

I got on to thinking about hieroglyphics (invented in Egypt) and cuneiform (devised by the Sumerians of Mesopotamia).

To bring it into a modern setting, I turned it into a coffee shop discussion about a tattoo.
